Bitcoin price and net worth widget for Android
Bag's home screen widget shows the live bitcoin price, the percentage change over a timeframe you pick, a price chart, and — if you have told Bag how much BTC you hold — your net worth in your own currency. It is free, refreshes in the background every 15 minutes, carries no ads, and needs no account. The same widget exists on iOS as a WidgetKit widget.
Add the Bag widget to your home screen
- Install Bag and set your holdings
Get Bag from Google Play or F-Droid. On the free tier, open Settings → PORTFOLIO, type your BTC amount (or sats, with Display in sats on) and tap Save Amount. Pro users can connect a watch-only wallet instead and the widget follows the scanned balance. If you skip this step the widget still shows the price and chart.

Under Settings → HOME SCREEN tap Add to Home Screen. Android shows a confirmation and places the widget. If your launcher does not support pinning, Bag says so and shows the manual steps.

Long-press an empty area of your home screen → Widgets → Bag → drag it into place. Resize it by long-pressing the placed widget and dragging the handles.

Tap the small settings icon on the widget. The WIDGET TIMEFRAME sheet offers 1D · 1W · 1M · 1Y · 5Y · ALL; tapping one saves it. The chart and the % change both follow this choice.
Price, chart and net worth in one widget
The widget adapts to the size you give it:
- Small (one cell wide) — your net worth and the last-updated time. A glanceable number, nothing else.
- Medium — BTC price, the % change over the chosen timeframe, net worth, and two optional rows: your DCA P&L (amount and %, once you have logged purchases in the DCA tracker) and the current fast fee in sat/vB (Pro, toggled under Settings → NETWORK FEES → Show in widget).
- Large — everything above plus the price chart drawn across the background.
The currency is the first of the up to three you selected under Settings → DISPLAY. Price and chart data come from Bag's own cache at bitbag.app, which averages several exchanges and is refreshed every few minutes; the 1Y, 5Y and ALL charts come from Kraken's weekly candles. Nothing about you is sent with those requests. Tapping anywhere on the widget opens the app.
How often does it update?
Android schedules background work in 15-minute slots, so the widget refreshes about every 15 minutes, and immediately whenever you open Bag or change a setting that affects it. The "updated HH:mm" line at the bottom tells you when the numbers were last fetched. Battery cost is negligible: one small HTTP request per refresh, no polling in between.
Widget on iOS
Bag on iPhone ships a WidgetKit widget in Small and Medium sizes with the same content — price, % change, sparkline and net worth. To add it: long-press an empty area of the home screen, tap Edit (or the + button on older iOS), tap Add Widget, search for Bag, pick a size and tap Add Widget. Long-press the placed widget and choose Edit Widget to change the chart timeframe or hide the % change. iOS decides the refresh cadence itself, but the widget fetches its own chart data so it is correct as soon as it renders — it does not need the app to be open.
Does the widget work with Tor?
Yes, and it respects your choice strictly. When Route through Tor is on (Pro, under Wallet & Privacy → NETWORK), the widget's background refresh first checks that Orbot is reachable. If it is, price, chart and any wallet scan go through Tor. If it is not, the refresh is skipped — the widget keeps its last values and the timestamp stops moving. It never falls back to the clear net silently. The same rule applies to the app itself, which then shows "Orbot not detected — prices paused" with a re-check button.
Keep Orbot running in the background (exclude it from battery optimisation) if you want the widget to stay current over Tor.
Widget and the app lock
Bag has an optional biometric/PIN lock for the app. The widget is drawn by Android's launcher from data Bag stores for it, so it cannot be locked: your net worth is visible on the home screen to anyone holding the unlocked phone. Bag warns you about this when you enable the lock. If that matters to you, use the Small size with net worth only when needed, or leave the BTC amount unset so the widget shows just the price.
Privacy
The widget makes exactly two kinds of request: a price/chart fetch from bitbag.app (or, as fallbacks, CoinGecko and Kraken) and — only for Pro users with a watch-only wallet — address lookups on the block explorer. No identifier, no account, no analytics. Your BTC amount is used to compute the net worth on the phone; it is never included in any request.
With Tor on, both kinds of request go through Orbot and are skipped entirely when Orbot is down. The BTC amount, wallet keys and cached balances are stored encrypted in the platform keystore. The app is open source (GPL-3.0) on GitHub, including the Kotlin and Swift widget code, so you can check what the widget sends.

Pro is a one-time unlock, no subscription. It adds watch-only wallets (so the widget tracks a real on-chain balance), Tor routing, a custom explorer, the fee row on the widget, the Bitcoin Health Check and Sentinel alerts on Android. Buy it through Google Play or the App Store, or — if you installed from F-Droid or the APK — pay with bitcoin on bitbag.app/pro and receive a signed licence key that the app verifies offline. Is the Bag bitcoin widget free?
Yes. The widget, the price, the chart and the net worth from a manually entered BTC amount are all part of the free tier. Only the fee row and a widget driven by a watch-only wallet balance need Bag Pro, a one-time unlock.
